About Me

Hi, I’m Big Al and I’m addicted to gear. Recording studio gear that is. :)

I started taking music lessons when I was just 5-years-old. I had my first piano lessos on the same day as my first day of public school. Talk about a double whammy!

I’ve never stopped since then. It took a few years before I really grew to enjoy it, but once I did nothing could hold me back.

I did my first paid professional gig when I was 13. It was a solo gig, but in just a few years I would be playing with a jazz trio, a quartet and booking gigs through a local talent agent that was booking some of the top acts in the Phoenix, Arizona area at the time. One that you might know is Francine Reed. She’s the woman you hear singing all those soulful parts on every Lyle Lovett album and live performance.

Along the way the recording bug bit me and I was poisoned for life. I started out with my Dad’s reel-to-reel machines and later graduated to a Yamaha MT-1X 4-track cassette deck and then a Fostex R-1 8-track reel-to-reel.

These days I run a Pro Tools LE rig on a Power Mac. Oh, if only I’d had this gear “back in the day.”

Now I enjoy making music and helping others bring their songs to life. And to quote the talented Mr. James Brown … “I feel good!”
