The Realistic Concertmate MG-1: A Moog In Cheap Clothing

By Big Al

Yes, it’s true. There was a time you could walk into your neighborhood Radio Shack store and spot a genuine Moog synthesizer. It was right there next to the display that beckoned you to get your “FREE Battery Card!” icon smile The Realistic Concertmate MG 1: A Moog In Cheap Clothing

Not only does this bit of trivia make this a great find on the second hand market, it is usually reasonably priced. When new, if I remember correctly, it was only $300 – $400.

Here’s a demonstration of the sound and functionality of the Realistic MG-1. If you managed to find one of these gems, drop me a line and tell me how you found it.

Keep up the search, I know you’ll score one eventually!

I have one and am possibly looking to trade for a Roland RE-201 Space Echo.

  4. I got an MG-1 the hard way. I bought mine from Radio Shack in 1984! Except for having to clean that nasty decaying foam out of it I have had no problems. It still works as good as it did when I bought it and I have used it over the years in making several cd’s. Of course I have to warm it up for a couple of hours so it will stay in tune, just like most of the vintage gear from that age. It is one of my prized instruments that makes sounds you just can’t get out of today’s equipment.

Right on Kenneth! Do you have a link to any downloads of tunes with your MG-1 on them?

I’ve had the MG-1 since I bought it in 1981 or 1982. And just TONIGHT I turned it on for the FIRST time in a good 25 years.
    And………..It works!

    Nice! :)
